Please find above African Swine Fever Update No. 3 of 2025:
- African Swine Fever (ASF) was detected for the first time since 1995 in wild boars in Spain.
- Thirteen wild boars have tested positive to ASF virus in in the proximity of the campus of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Catalonia, Spain).
- No outbreaks have been detected in domestic pigs in Spain.
- No outbreaks of ASF have ever been detected in Ireland but it continues to cause significant impacts on pig industries in affected countries across mainland Europe and worldwide.
- Humans can play an important role in spreading ASF to new regions. Food waste infected with the ASF virus consumed by pigs, represents the most significant risk pathway for a disease incursion into Ireland.
