Description | Nipah virus (NiV) is an emerging zoonotic disease, now endemic in Southeast Asia, that mainly affects pigs. However there is evidence NiV may infect other species, including: dogs, cats, goats and horses. NiV causes severe & often fatal encephalitis in humans exposed to diseased pigs. |
